Schweizer came from a farming family in Stammheim, attended the Evangelical Teachers' College in Backnang from 1915-21 and taught for four years at various elementary schools. From 1926 to 1930 he studied mathematics and physics at the Technical University of Stuttgart . In 1931 he passed both teaching examinations and was then an assistant at the technical university for two years. Since 1933 he taught mathematics in high schools. After the ban on membership , he joined the NSDAP in 1937 .

From 1943 he was employed in the medical service and from June 1944 as an assistant in a project supported by the Reich Research Council . Because school lessons were not resumed until autumn 1945 after the end of the war, he first had to work with students in the Colorado beetle and medicinal herb service. During this time he also began working on the textbook series, later known as the "Lambacher Schweizer", initially together with Theophil Lambacher , later with a large number of changing employees.

From 1946 to 1970 he held mathematics lectures for chemists and biologists at the University of Tübingen and since 1949 numerous lectures on didactics of mathematics, for which he was appointed honorary professor in 1954 .

From 1954 to 1966 he was director of the Kepler grammar school in Tübingen . He was a frequent speaker at meetings of pedagogical academies, particularly on issues of school reform and reform of mathematics teaching.
