Wilhelm Strecker (General)

Wilhelm Strecker (born December 13, 1890 in Wiener Neustadt , † 1955 in Mödling ) was an Austro-German officer , most recently major general in World War II .

Life

Lieutenant Colonel Wilhelm Strecker was from the formation on August 26, 1939 to October 31, 1940 commander of the III. Department of Artillery Regiment 156, then as a colonel until January 10, 1943, commander of the entire regiment. In this function, Strecker was responsible for the shooting of 128 civilians and 60 children as a retaliatory measure in the village of Chozum on November 15, 1941 by the I. Department of Artillery Regiment 156, which was undoubtedly a war crime.

The German Cross in Gold was awarded to him on January 29, 1942 as commander of the 156th Artillery Regiment.

From January 10, 1943 to December 1944, he was artillery commander 122 (Arko 122). His last command was as Higher Artillery Commander 317 (HArko 317). In this capacity, Strecker was promoted to major general on January 30, 1945 .
