Wilhelm Stricker (born November 30, 1905 in Neuwied ; † July 8, 1992 in Troisdorf ) was a local politician ( CDU ) in Troisdorf and two-time recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit .

Life

Born in Neuwied, he had lived in Troisdorf since 1908. Before his later public appearance as a local politician, Wilhelm Stricker was already committed to his Christian convictions, despite his membership in the NSDAP : In his office, he secretly hectographed pastoral words from the newly appointed Archbishop of Cologne, Josef Frings , whose appointment the Nazis had banned the press from report, and ensured their dissemination.

When the English occupation troops seized the Troisdorf residential area between Schloßstraße, Friedensstraße, Hospitalstraße (then Friedrich-Ebert-Straße), Richard-Wagner-Platz and von-Loe-Straße after the end of the Second World War in 1945, Wilhelm Stricker began his local political work: He continued effectively advocate for replacement housing. It is due to his initiative that the residential complex on what was then known as the "small Blücherstraße" with 32 apartments and on Bertha-von-Suttner-Straße the arcade house with 18 apartments were built by the non-profit housing cooperative Troisdorf with the support of the city.

He moved into the city council of Troisdorf for the first time in the election on November 9, 1952. In the 32 uninterrupted years of his membership in the council, Wilhelm Stricker was mayor from December 2, 1954 to November 6, 1956 . In addition, he was always a member (partly as chairman) of the building and procurement committee and in individual terms of the social, main and finance committee, the school and culture committee (for many years also chairman), the works committee and the waste disposal association. As age-president of the city council, he had to carry out the election of the mayor in 1975 ( municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia ) and 1979.

In addition to his professional activity as an industrial businessman, Wilhelm Stricker held the office of jury at the Bonn Regional Court for twelve years, first at Klöckner-Mannstaedt-Werke and later at Dynamit Nobel AG, Troisdorf, since 1934.

In addition, he was an honorary board member of the non-profit housing cooperative Troisdorf eG since 1957 and since 1970 chairman of the DRK local association Troisdorf for 15 years . In 1979 he received the decoration of the German Red Cross .

It was founded in 1977 by the German President Walter Scheel , the Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon, 1985 by the Federal President Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class.

Mayor Hans Jaax and city director Gerhardus paid tribute to Wilhelm Stricker in 1992 as a man “who played a key role in the development of the city of Troisdorf”.

Posthumously the connection between the old town hall and the cemetery at the forest park was named "Wilhelm-Stricker-Weg".
