Wilhelm Teuwen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm Teuwen (born August 16, 1908 in Anrath ; † August 21, 1967 there ) was a German painter, glass painter , wood cutter and art professor.

Live and act

Teuwen completed his studies at the Düsseldorf Academy with Heinrich Campendonk and Heinrich Nauen .

After the Second World War Teuwen was a member of the newly founded Rhenish Secession . In addition, in the course of the reconstruction there was a historically unique "need" for glazing or restoration and additions for old windows in sacred and secular buildings. Teuwen's stained glass can be found in Cologne on the Cologne Cathedral (main window / transverse building), on St. Gereon , St. Paul , on St. Marien (Cologne-Fühlingen), the Franciscan Church, on the town hall and numerous other new public buildings in Cologne (Gürzenich / Theater / Schools / authorities). Teuwen's works have a strong, mostly religious expressiveness and, moreover, also have a successful color expression.

In November 1946 he was appointed to the reopened Cologne factory schools and remained there until his death as a professor of glass painting.

Teuwen was a good friend and colleague of Ludwig Gies .
