Wilhelm Thomas (politician, 1875)

Wilhelm Thomas (born August 25, 1875 in Wörrstadt , † November 10, 1955 in Mainz ) was a Hessian trade unionist and politician ( SPD ) and a former member of the state parliament of the People's State of Hesse in the Weimar Republic .

Life

Wilhelm Thomas was the son of a tailor Peter Wilhelm Thomas and his wife Katharina nee Bucher. Wilhelm Thomas, who was a Protestant, was married to Josephina Elisabeth, born Budi (1879–1960).

After completing elementary school, he worked as a plumber's journeyman until 1910. From 1907 to 1933 he was chairman of the trade union cartel and from November 1910 until the Nazis came to power in 1933 he was an employee of the metalworkers' association and later the ADGB trade union secretary in Mainz.

From 1914 he was chairman of the cooperative council of the consumer association in Mainz and from 1927 chairman of the SP education committee and the workers' culture cartel in Mainz. From 1920 to 1933 he was a member of the Provisional Reich Economic Council as an employee representative for industry .

During the time of National Socialism he was unable to continue his union and political work. After 1945 he was involved in rebuilding the trade unions in Mainz.

Wilhelm Thomas was a city councilor in Mainz for the SPD from 1919 to 1933. In 1928 he ran unsuccessfully for the Reichstag in constituency 33 (Hessen-Darmstadt). From 1932 to 1933 he was a member of the Hessian state parliament.
