from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm Uhde (also known under the pseudonym Zoch ) (born December 29, 1868 in Krefeld ; † May 6, 1917 at Fresnoy ) was a German writer, poet and composer of numerous student songs . From 1902 until his death he was a high school professor at the Städtisches Gymnasium and Realgymnasium Bonn, which later became the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium Bonn .

Live and act

Wilhelm Uhde was born as the son of the businessman Carl Uhde and Margarethe Aretz.

After finishing school in Krefeld, he studied from 1887 to 1893 at the Rheinische Universität Bonn . His interest was in ancient studies . During his student days and also later, he spent many hours with his student club brothers in the Aennchen Schumacher inn in Godesberg . He wrote and composed numerous student songs and sang these like many others himself with great enthusiasm. Some of the songs that he has composed and composed include, for example: "Alt Bonna du Taute" or "Ich bin ein Junge Studio"; "God protect me from sour wine and false women"; "Fox tapping"; "Wandering"; "Moselle song"; "H20"; "Godesburg"; "On the Rhine"; "The Summer Night"; "Bad Cattle"; "Goodbye"; "The Zechen"; "Einkehr beim Ännchen" and many more.

After his studies, his years of traveling took him to Mönchengladbach and Krefeld , then to Argentina for two years . After his return he worked as an assistant teacher at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium Cologne and as a senior teacher at the Realgymnasium Remscheid . Finally, on April 28, 1902, he came to Bonn and became a high school professor at the municipal high school and high school in Bonn.

Wilhelm Uhde died at Fresnoy on May 6, 1917.

In addition to his work on classical studies and his passion for song poetry, he was also active as a writer. The books (not secured) “From old Bonner Bierzeitungen” Bonn 1907; "War poems and soldiers' songs" Cologne 1915, originate from him.

The pseudonym "Zoch" was probably his couleur name , since he moved in these circles and belonged to a student association himself, as his obituary shows. Zoch is the Rhenish word for train, which is why this couleur name could have its origin in the singing parades of Wilhelm Uhde with his club brothers around the pub tables described by Ännchen Schumacher.

The human being Wilhelm Uhde

Little is known about the person Wilhelm Uhde. The Godesberg “Lindenwirtin” Aennchen Schumacher wrote about Zoch “... of the poets I first name our dear Zoch, who sacrificed his life to his fatherland in the field of honor. ... and I will never forget the enthusiasm with which he always sang the many soldier and folk songs. With his club brothers he then marched around the long pub table at the same step and step until all the verses were sung .... ".

In her biography, Aennchen Schumacher wrote about “Zoch”: “... I don't want to forget to add to this wonderful description of May that this alleged Philistine particularly revered May during his student days and quite often with him on April 30th at the Godesburg and afterwards his club brothers for punch came with us. Unfortunately, he can no longer celebrate May because, on May 6, 1917, as a hero, he gave his life to the fatherland. On May 1st, 1917 I received a card from the trench near Arras ”, with the address:“ To Ännchen und den Mai in Godesberg ”and on the back the words“ May has come, in the Moselle and Burgundy, to his and her Well". - Your Zoch.
