Wilhelm Wagenbach (born September 17, 1876 in Alten-Buseck , † March 2, 1945 in Bad Salzhausen ) was a German university professor of mechanical engineering.

Life

Wagenbach was born in Alten-Buseck in the district of Gießen in 1876 . From 1894 to 1897 he studied mechanical engineering at the TH Darmstadt . After completing his studies, he went to the TH Berlin on November 1, 1897 as an assistant for machine elements and water power machines . In June 1899 he graduated from there with a degree in engineering. On October 1, 1900, he switched to the Carlshütte ironworks in Delligsen as a turbine designer . A year later he returned to the TH Berlin-Charlottenburg as a construction engineer. There he completed his habilitation and became a private lecturer on July 15, 1909. On July 25, 1910, he was appointed full professor for water power machines and machine elements at the TH Breslau .

At the beginning of the winter semester 1921/22, Wagenbach moved to the Technical University of Darmstadt as a full professor for hydropower machines and hydraulics. He thus succeeded Ernst Braun (1878–1962), who had worked at the TH Darmstadt since 1913 as the successor to Adolf Pfarr (1851–1912) and had switched to the TH Stuttgart for the summer semester of 1921 .

Wagenbach concentrated in his work v. a. on turbine measurement technology and the development of Pelton turbines. Wagenbach was able to carry out his research in the mechanical engineering laboratory V, which was housed in a side wing (34 m × 10 m) of the machine house built by Georg Wickop from 1901 to 1904. This mechanical engineering laboratory for hydropower machines was set up in 1905 by Adolf Pfarr and for a long time served as a model for similar laboratories that were built at other technical universities. From 1926 to 1928 Wagenbach was dean of the mechanical engineering, paper and gas engineering, aviation technology and meteorology department.

At the end of the summer semester of 1941, Wilhelm Wagenbach retired. Since there was no successor, he temporarily replaced his professorship until September 30, 1944. Due to the considerable destruction of a large number of TH buildings as a result of a bomb attack on the night of September 11th to 12th, 1944, the university was open at the previous location on Got stuck. Wagenbach withdrew to the surrounding area.

Wilhelm Wagenbach died in Bad Salzhausen in the Wetterau district in early March 1945. He had been married to Anna Dietz since August 1901.
