Wilhelm Waldkirch (born October 11, 1870 in Ludwigshafen , † August 31, 1942 ) was a German newspaper publisher .

Life

After attending the Mannheim secondary school, Waldkirch joined his father's publishing business and in 1897 took over the management of the printing works and the general gazette in Ludwigshafen . In 1899 he founded the Palatinate Rundschau , which developed into the largest daily newspaper in the Palatinate.

Waldkirch was a member of the main board of the Association of German Newspaper Publishers in Berlin and second chairman of the Southwest German Publishers Association in Karlsruhe.

On Waldkirch's initiative, the Institute for Newspapers at Heidelberg University was founded in 1927 with the support of the Association of German Newspaper Publishers . On June 15, 1928, the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg awarded him an honorary doctorate for his services.

Waldkirch was a member of the Freemason Lodge Carl zur Eintracht in Mannheim. He found his final resting place in the family grave in Ludwigshafen's main cemetery .
