Wilhelm van Laak

Wilhelm van Laak (born November 3, 1881 in Rheinberg ; † June 8, 1956 in Bocholt ) was a doctor and politician.

Van Laak studied human medicine after graduating from high school and practiced as a general practitioner from 1930 to 1956.

Before 1933 he was a member of the Center Party . During the time of National Socialism , van Laak was warned several times by the medical association and the Gestapo because he treated prisoners too mildly. He was also imprisoned for a short time.

After the end of the Second World War , van Laak joined the CDU . In September 1945 he became a member of the appointed city council of Bocholt and on October 30, 1946, Lord Mayor of the city. He held the office until November 20, 1947. In 1946 he was a member of the Provincial Council for Westphalia and in 1946 and 1947 a member of the appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia .
