Wilhelm von Zipperlen

Wilhelm von Zipperlen (born October 12, 1829 in Bönnigheim , † June 2, 1905 in Stuttgart ) was a German veterinarian and university professor of veterinary medicine.

Live and act

Wilhelm von Zipperlen studied at the Royal Veterinary School in Stuttgart in 1848/50 and then at the same institution in Berlin. In 1854 he worked as a regiment horse doctor in Ludwigsburg and until 1870 in Ulm in the Royal 3rd Cavalry Regiment "King Wilhelm". Here he was also senior veterinarian from 1855. In 1870 he accepted the call to the Royal Württemberg Agricultural Academy in Hohenheim near Stuttgart as a professor of veterinary medicine and horse breeding and taught in the successor to Adolf Rueff until 1901. In a part-time position, he was senior veterinarian at the Stuttgart estate supervisory authority for several years.

A presentation of the health care of domestic animals, instruction about the exterior, obstetrics, shoeing and the like. s. w. and about the diseases of all domestic animals, together with their treatment, with simultaneous consideration of homeopathy: with an appendix about the main defects; at the same time a handbook for veterinarians. Ulm: J. Ebner'sche Buchhandlung. 1st edition 1867, 8th edition 1890; 10th to 13th ed. 1912 to 1955. Many copies of this title are still offered in antiquarian fashion.

Honors

Zipperlen was appointed to the Württemberg Medical Council in 1888 .

In 1901 he was awarded the Cross of Honor of the Order of the Württemberg Crown . This was associated with the Württemberg personal nobility ( ennoblement ). The application for the award of the Commander's Cross of the Order of Frederick to Zipperlen could no longer be implemented because of his death.
