Adolf Rueff

Adolf Rueff , pronounced Ru-eff , (born June 2, 1820 in Stuttgart , † October 9, 1885 ibid) was a German veterinarian .

Life

Rueff studied medicine in Tübingen since 1838 , veterinary medicine in Stuttgart, Berlin , Vienna , Paris and Brussels since 1840 , became a teacher of zoology and veterinary medicine at the Hohenheim Agricultural Academy in 1846 , followed in 1869 as the director of the veterinary school, succeeding Eduard von Hering in Stuttgart and retired in 1877.

On the occasion of his participation in the agricultural exhibition in Paris in 1855 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Legion of Honor by France.

Rueff constructed many instruments for practical veterinary needs and wrote:

  • About the construction and performance of the body of our domestic animals (3rd edition, Stuttgart 1870), as an introduction to the manual of agricultural animal science and animal breeding begun by his predecessor Baumeister, most of which are: obstetrics, exterior of horses and cattle, horse breeding, pig breeding, by have been edited in repeated editions.

He also wrote:

  • Warranty in the pet trade (Stuttgart 1852)
  • Meat as human food (Stuttgart 1866)
  • The shearing of our pets (Berlin 1873)
  • Breed, hair and gait of the horse (Stuttgart 1874)
  • Construction and furnishing of the stables etc. (Stuttgart 1875)
  • The races of the cattle (Stuttgart 1876, with 32 plates)
  • The Hundswut (Stuttgart 1876)
  • General animal breeding theory (Berlin 1878)
  • The exterior of the horse (Stuttgart 1885)

He also published the yearbook for horse breeding and horse knowledge that Tennecker had started from 1851 to 1857 .
