Wilhelmsfehn I is a district of Wiesmoor in the Aurich district in East Friesland .

history

The place emerged from 1888 as an eastern extension of Ostgroßefehn and is still closely connected to this in terms of urban planning: the transition is fluid. The place was created by the Großefehngesellschaft . The fen colony was named after Kaiser Wilhelm I. By 1921 the place grew to 245 inhabitants.

Wilhelmsfehn I was initially an estate district , which became the municipality of Wilhelmsfehn in the 1920s .

When the large community of Wiesmoor was formed in 1951, the community of Wilhelmsfehn was incorporated there. In the south of the district, an industrial area was created in the 1950s and 1960s, in which the largest private company Wiesmoors, the construction and plant engineering company Bohlen und Doyen, is based today. In addition, a sports stadium and the town hall of the community (today: City) Wiesmoor, which has not been used since 2008, were built. The northern part of Wilhelmsfehn I is characterized by a series of Wieken (branch canals of Fehn canals).
