Wilhelmus Grimetre also Guillaume Grimaître (* 1436 in Saint-Ursanne ; † 1519 in La Neuveville ) was a priest, scribe and owner of manuscripts and incunabula in La Neuveville (Switzerland).

Life

From 1459/1460 Wilhelmus Grimetre was pastor in Vinelz (Fénis) in the Erlach ( Canton Bern ) office and later also chaplain at the White Church (Alba Ecclesia, Blanche-Eglise) in La Neuveville. He died in La Neuveville in 1519, where his tombstone can still be seen inside the White Church (as of 2017).

He was the owner of various theological and canonical texts in incunable and early prints and wrote liturgical, sermon and other texts for his church service, most of which he provided with his coat of arms and autobiographical notes in German, French and Latin. When he died, most of his books remained in place and were used by his successors in office; they are kept in the archives of the La Neuveville Civic Community ; an anthology with files from the Council of Constance is kept in the Capuchin Monastery of Wesemlin Lucerne; a Missale ad usum Lausannensis diocesis , written by him in Vinelz (Fénis) in 1488, paper manuscript in folio format , also used by him as a handbook and notebook, is kept in Friborg (Switzerland), State Archives (Fonds de l'Hôpital , ms.sn).
