Will Donaldson

William "Will" John Donaldson (born April 21, 1891 in New York City , † December 16, 1954 in Los Angeles ) was an American pianist and songwriter who also worked in the field of jazz .

Donaldson worked as a composer from 1915 to 1940 with songwriters and songwriters such as Irving Caesar , Rubey Cowan , Clarence Gaskill , William Grant Still , Jo Trent , Ned Wever and Harry White . In 1916 he wrote the piano novelty song "Rialto Ripples" with George Gershwin (and Jim Lyke) . His best-known tracks include "Alcoholic Blues" (with Albert Von Tilzer and Ruby Cowan), "Come Back To Me (When They Throw You Down)", "Do Wacka Doo" (with Gaskill and George Horther ), "Everybody's Crazy Over Dixie ”(with Cowan and Bobby Jones),“ Gold Digger ”(with Duke Ellington ),“ I Can't Resist You ”(with Ned Wever),“ Oh, Sister! Ain't That Hot "(recorded by Eddie Condon , who was also co-writer)," Rainy Nights "(with Vincent Lopez and Jo Trent) and" Step on the Blues "(with Con Conrad and Otto Harbach ). Some of Donaldson's compositions such as "Oh Sister Ain't That Hot" (with Pete Wendling, piano) have been released as piano rolls ; with the vocalist Jack Parker, Will Donaldson recorded titles such as "CONSTANTINOPLE" and "Mississippi Mud" for Edison in 1928.
