William Dion Venable (born October 29, 1982 in Greenbrae , California ) is an American former baseball player and currently works as a third base coach for the Chicago Cubs. He played in Major League Baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers and San Diego Padres, who drew him in the 7th round of the 2005 draft.

Career

college

After Venable graduated from San Rafael High School , he chose Princeton College in the town of the same name. In addition to baseball, he also played basketball there , both at a high level. But he decided to play baseball because his father Max was an outfielder with the San Francisco Giants .

MLB

Venable was drawn in the 2005 draft in the 7th round (218th overall) by the San Diego Padres . He played his first game on August 29, 2008 against the Colorado Rockies , in which he could record his first hit . This was followed by a rapid rise in the young outfielders . In his first year in MLB he had a batting average of .264, which was or is constant in every season.

Venable is a very fast player, which makes him a very good base stealer. He also finished two seasons among the players with the most triples.
