The Willapa River is a river in Pacific County in southwest Washington state .

It rises about 40 km west of Chehalis in the Willapa Hills . It flows northwest and drains a mostly hilly area north of the Columbia River , until after about 32 km at South Bend it flows into Willapa Bay , a large estuary on the Pacific coast.

The river is named after the Willapa , an Athabaskan-speaking Indian tribe who populated the river valley and the region up to the source streams of the Chehalis and Cowlitz Rivers .
