Willem Jacobszoon Delff

Willem Jacobszoon Delff (also: Delfus or Delphius ) (born November 15, 1580 in Delft , † April 11, 1638 there ) was a Dutch engraver and painter . His parents were Jakob Willemsz. Delff (the Elder) (around 1550 - † May 5, 1601) and Maria Nagel († around 1622).

His father was also a painter and at the same time a teacher to his three sons. His brother Cornelius Jacobsz. (van) Delff (around 1571–1643) specialized in still life, his second brother Rochus Jacobsz. Delff (1572? –1617) mainly painted portraits.

Willem married Geertruid van Mierevelt (January 2, 1594 - October 30, 1639), daughter of Michiel van Mierevelt (1567–1641), with whom he also bought a house in 1631/32 (De Handtboog). His son Jacob Willemsz. Delff (the Younger) (1619–1661) was also a well-known portrait painter.

Works

Many of Delff's engravings are based on portraits his father-in-law painted.
