La Asunta is a country town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
La Asunta is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) La Asunta in the province of Sud Yungas . The village is located at an altitude of 745 m above the left bank of the Río Boopi , which forms from the Río de la Paz , which flows from La Paz from a south-westerly direction , and drains to the Río Beni .

La Asunta is located on the eastern slopes of the Bolivian Cordillera Central at an altitude of 1811 m , between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera de Cocapata in the east.

La Asunta is located at a distance of 217 kilometers by road northeast of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.
From La Paz, the paved road Ruta 3 leads sixty kilometers eastwards over the La Cumbre pass to Unduavi , from where the Ruta 25 branches off , which continues as a dirt road in a south-easterly direction for seventy kilometers to Chulumani . From there an unpaved road continues to the northeast via Tajma . This road along the Río Boopi is repeatedly endangered by landslides and is not accessible all year round. After 87 kilometers you reach La Asunta , from there it continues downriver via Cotapata to the town of Puerto Rico on the Río Boopi.
