The municipality of La Asunta is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of La Asunta is one of five municipalities in the Sud Yungas province and is located in the central part of the province. It borders in the north with the municipality Palos Blancos , in the northwest with the province Caranavi , in the west with the province Nor Yungas , in the southwest with the municipality Chulumani , in the south with the municipality Irupana , in the southeast with the province Inquisivi , and in the east the department of Cochabamba .

The municipality has 149 localities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is La Asunta with 2,143 inhabitants in the central part of the municipality. Larger towns in the municipality are La Calzada with 1,200 inhabitants and Las Mercedes with 1,119 inhabitants. ( 2012 census )

The municipality of La Asunta is located on the eastern slopes of the Bolivian Cordillera Central at an average altitude of 1800  m , between the Andean mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera de Cocapata in the east.

The mean average temperature of the municipality is 23 ° C (see climate diagram), the annual precipitation is around 1,300 mm. The region has a distinctive daytime climate, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between a good 20 ° C in June / July and 25 ° C in November / December.
