The Municipio Irupana (also '" Villa de Lanza ") is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Municipio Irupana is one of five Municipios of the Sud Yungas Province and is located in the southern part of the province. It borders the province of Murillo in the southwest , the province of Loayza in the south, the province of Inquisivi in the southeast , the municipality La Asunta in the northeast , the municipality Chulumani in the north, and the municipality Yanacachi in the northwest .

The municipality has 120 localities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is Irupana with 1,949 inhabitants in the central part of the municipality. The second largest town in the municipality is Chicaloma with 768 inhabitants. ( 2012 census )

geography

The municipality of Irupana is located in the Bolivian Yungas on the eastern slopes of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Real and ranges from an altitude of almost 900  m in the valley of the Río Tamampaya in the north to an altitude of more than 5000 m on the upper slopes of the Illimani in the South. The region has a distinctive daytime climate, where the temperature fluctuations between day and night are greater than between the seasons.

The mean average temperature of the region is 19 ° C, the annual precipitation is about 1150 mm (see climate diagram Chulumani), the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 17 ° C in July and 21 ° C in December. The monthly precipitation is between about 20 mm in the months of June and July and more than 150 mm from December to February.

The municipality had a population density of 12.7 inhabitants / km² at the last census in 2012 . The life expectancy of newborns in 2001 was 61.6 years, and infant mortality rose from 5.1 percent ( 1992 ) to 6.6 percent in 2001.

The literacy rate among those over the age of 19 is 80.0 percent, namely 88.3 percent for men and 70.0 percent for women. ( 2001 )

90.4 percent of the population speak Spanish , 56.4 percent speak Aymara , and 1.8 percent speak Quechua . ( 2001 )

66.2 percent of the population have no access to electricity , 67.3 percent live without sanitary facilities . ( 2001 )

82.9 percent of 3,624 households own a radio, 23.9 percent a television, 10.1 percent a bicycle, 4.6 percent a motorcycle, 3.8 percent a car, 7.1 percent a refrigerator, 0.7 percent a telephone. ( 2001 )
