Calizaya ( also : Callisaya) is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Calizaya is the central place of the canton Calizaya in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) La Asunta in the province Sud Yungas . The village is located at an altitude of 1347  m on the northern slope above the Río Boopi .

Calizaya is located in the Bolivian Yungas on the eastern slope of the high mountain ridge of the Cordillera Real . The climate is a typical time of day climate in which the mean fluctuation in daytime temperatures is more pronounced than the seasonal fluctuations.

The mean average temperature of the region is 21 ° C (see climate diagram Chulumani), the mean monthly values ​​fluctuate only slightly between 18 ° C in July and 22 ° C in December. The annual precipitation is about 1150 mm, the monthly precipitation is between about 20 mm in the months of June and July and more than 150 mm from December to February.

Transport network

Calizaya is at a distance of 184 kilometers by road east of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz the paved road Ruta 3 leads in a north-easterly direction for 60 kilometers to Unduavi , from there the unpaved Ruta 25 branches off in a south-easterly direction along the Río Unduavi and after 70 kilometers it reaches Chulumani . From there, a dirt road leads twenty kilometers via Tajma to Pasto Pata . From Pasto Pata a road leads ten kilometers down a stream valley into the valley of the Río Tamampaya , overcoming a difference of 750 meters in altitude. The road crosses the river and continues past Villa Barrientos for a further eighteen kilometers along its left, northern bank to the confluence with the Río Boopi . From there it is another thirteen kilometers down the Río Boopi via Yanamayu and Chamaca to Charobamba . Four kilometers below Charobamba, a road branches off to the left, which winds up almost 500 meters in altitude to the villages of El Palmar , Calizaya and Charoplaya .
