Willem de Fesch
Willem de Fesch ( baptized 26 August 1687 in Alkmaar , † 3. January 1761 in London ) was a Dutch violinist and composer of the Baroque .
Life
De Fesch's father, Louis de Fesch was a Liège musician who settled in Amsterdam. Willem de Fesch was probably a student of Charles Rosier . Between 1710 and 1725 he was in Amsterdam a. a. active at the Stadsschouwburg . In 1725 he took over the position of Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp from Alphonse d'Eve , which he held until 1731. Then he settled in London. Here the virtuoso violinist gave numerous concerts and conducted Handel's orchestra. His style was influenced by Vivaldi and Handel, and his music is shaped by the transition from baroque to pre-classical .
In 1711 Willem de Fesch married the daughter of his teacher Charles Rosier, the singer Maria Anna Rosier. De Fesch's compositional work includes oratorios , orchestral and chamber music.
