Willi Brase

Willi Brase (born October 10, 1951 in Quetzen , Petershagen ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and was a member of the German Bundestag .

Life and work

After attending elementary school , Brase began training in wholesale and foreign trade in 1966 . After graduation, he attended a technical college from 1969 to 1971 and then did military service until 1972 and, after successful conscientious objection, did his community service until 1973 . He then completed a degree in social pedagogy at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences , which he finished in 1976.

After an internship at the Rhineland Regional Council , in 1978 he started working as a social worker in the youth care department of the youth welfare office in Mönchengladbach . In 1981, Brase moved to the DGB state district of North Rhine-Westphalia as a youth education officer , where he finally became state youth secretary in 1984. In 1989 he took over the chairmanship of the DGB district association Siegen-Wittgenstein and in 1994 he became chairman of the DGB region Siegen-Wittgenstein- Olpe , since 2009 for the DGB region South Westphalia.

Brase is married and has two children.

Political party

Willi Brase has been a member of the SPD since 1981. Brase is chairman of the SPD sub-district Siegen-Wittgenstein and is a member of the board of the Western Westphalia district. He is also a member of the DGB and the Ver.di union.

MP

From 1998 to 2017 he was a member of the German Bundestag , where he was a full member of the Committee for "Education, Research and Technology Assessment" and the Committee on Food and Agriculture . As a deputy member, he was also in the committee for “Transport, Building and Urban Development”.

Willi Brase drew 1998 over the national list North Rhine-Westphalia and 2002 and 2005 as directly selected delegates of the constituency Siegen-Wittgenstein in the Bundestag one. In the 2005 Bundestag election he received 43.6 percent of the first votes . In the Bundestag election in 2009 he was defeated by Volkmar Klein, a candidate for the CDU, with just 39.1 percent, but moved back into the German Bundestag via the state list. In 2013 he moved to the federal election again on the list in the Bundestag since it Volkmar Klein defeated (CDU) again at 36.5% share of the vote. He did not run again for the 2017 federal election.
