Volkmar Klein (born January 13, 1960 in Siegen ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and economist. He has been a directly elected member of the German Bundestag (MdB) for the Siegen-Wittgenstein constituency since September 27, 2009 and was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from 1995 to 2009 .

Life

Klein passed his Abitur in 1979 and then studied economics at the University of Bonn until 1986 . He graduated in 1986 with a degree in economics. During his studies from 1980 to 1984 he worked as an assistant to a member of the Bundestag. After graduating in 1986, he did an internship at a consulting firm in Melbourne , Australia, for several months . After his return he worked as a freelancer in Germany. In 1988 and 1989 he was the branch manager of another Australian company in Düsseldorf. He then worked as a manager at a clinic company until 1995.

Volkmar Klein is married and has four children.

Klein became a member of the CDU in 1978. Since 2001 he has been a member of the regional executive committee of the CDU and since 2003 chairman of the CDU in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district . From 2004 to 2015 he was the regional chairman of the Evangelical Working Group. He was also a member of the council of the municipality of Burbach from 1984 to 2005 and was mayor of the municipality from January 1992 to June 1996. From June 1, 1995 to November 3, 2009, he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, where he was a full member of the budget control committee, the budget and finance committee and the “Personnel” subcommittee in the budgetary and finance committee. He was also his party's spokesman on the budget and finance committee.

In the 2009 Bundestag election , Klein won 41.53% of the votes as a direct candidate for the CDU and was thus a member of the 17th German Bundestag . In 2013 he was able to win his constituency directly with 45.8% of the votes and moved into the Bundestag for another four years. There he was a full member of the Budget Committee and also a full member of the subcommittee on issues relating to the European Union and of the Parliamentary Financial Market Committee. Since 2013 he has been a deputy member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

In the 2017 federal election , Volkmar Klein won his constituency one more time and received 40.13% of the vote. In the 19th German Bundestag , as chairman of the Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development, he is the spokesman for economic cooperation and development of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. He is also a deputy member of the Budget Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Memberships

Klein has been chairman of the German-Pacific parliamentary group since 2013. In his home town of Burbach, Volkmar Klein was chairman of the Heimatverein Alte Vogtei Burbach eV from 1997 to 2017

He is a board member of the Deutsche Afrika Stiftung eV as well as of the Friends of Siegerland Airport Dreiländereck eV. Volkmar Klein is also on the board of the Foundation and Association for Basic Values ​​and International Understanding
