The Hesselbach wind farm is a wind farm in the urban area of Bad Laasphe in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) . It is located in the districts of Hesselbach , Banfe and Bad Laasphe. It is the first forest wind farm in North Rhine-Westphalia. The wind farm has ten wind turbines from the manufacturer Vestas . Two more systems are being planned. The installed capacity is just under 31 megawatts .

history

The motivation for the wind farm was the major storm damage caused by Hurricane Kyrill in January 2007. The changed political framework conditions such as a revised wind energy decree were just as important . The forest owner and entrepreneur Ludwig Ferdinand Prinz zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg founded the company Wittgenstein New Energy Holding GmbH (WNE Group), which deals with the consulting, planning, implementation and operation of wind turbines. Founder and managing director are identical.

Construction and inauguration

Construction of the wind turbines
Inauguration speech by Johannes Remmel

In October 2012 the investor received the first approval. The foundations were concreted in May 2013; 1,050 cubic meters of concrete and 93 tons of steel were used per foundation. An area of around two hectares was required for each plant. The first large components were delivered in July of the same year and the first system at the Spreitzkopf was completed in August.

A special crane from Franz Bracht , which has a lifting capacity of 750 tons, was required for the construction work . The preparatory work was carried out by 130 and 400 tonne cranes.

On September 11, 2013, the wind farm was opened by the North Rhine-Westphalian Environment Minister Johannes Remmel .

First expansion: WEA 7 and 8

At the beginning of 2014, the approval for the expansion of the wind farm by two more turbines of the same type was announced. The construction was implemented in November of the same year. The additional systems were completed in early December 2014 and connected to the power grid a few weeks later.

Second extension: WEA 9 and 10

In March 2016 it became known that an application for a permit for two more plants northeast of Hesselbach on the Gerhardsberg and the Görzberg had been submitted. Approval was granted in December 2016. Construction of the two plants began in April 2017 and was completed in October 2017.

Third extension: WEA 11

The plans for another wind turbine shortly behind the state border on the Hessian side of the Görzberg became known in March 2017. Mathematically, it would supply around 3000 two-person households. [outdated]

Fourth extension: WEA 12

In September 2017, plans for wind turbines on the Raumberg, southeast of Banfe, became known. [outdated]

business

Vestas operates a maintenance branch with four mechanics in the nearby Erndtebrück .

Power generation

According to RWE, the annual standard energy capacity of the first six wind turbines corresponds mathematically to the consumption of 14,000 households.

Driveway

During the respective construction times of the wind farm and its extensions, the street, called Armer Mann (part of the district road K 36), was rededicated into a one-way street. The permitted direction of travel was from Bad Laasphe to Hesselbach. The reason for this was that any other traffic with the construction vehicles would be a safety risk. Due to the closure of the federal highway 62 , complicated regulations became necessary during the construction work in 2017.

Defective generator

In April and May 2015, a crane replaced a defective generator.

The eight first wind turbines are of the Vestas V112 type , which have a rotor diameter of 112 m, a hub height of 140 m and, as a result, a total height of 196 m. They each have an installed capacity of 3 MW and were built in 2013 and 2014.

The second expansion was carried out with two Vestas V126 turbines. They have a hub height of 137 meters and a rotor diameter of 126 meters. The installed capacity is 3.3 MW.

For the first six plants, the connection of the wind farm with around 36 km of power cables to a substation in Bad Laasphe is specified. In 2013 a further 15 and 10 km were laid for communication and lightning protection.
