The Spreitzkopf in the district of Hesselbach in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Siegen-Wittgenstein and in the central Hessian district of Marburg-Biedenkopf is 627  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Rothaargebirge with a peak in Westphalia .

The Spreitzkopf rises in the south of the Rothaargebirge and in the southeast of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature reserve . The summit of the wooded mountain is about 1000 m northeast of Hesselbach and 3.3 km southeast of Banfe , two districts of Bad Laasphe , and 460 m west of the border with Central Hesse . Another nearby town is Wiesenbach, a district of Breidenbach in Hesse, 3.4 km northeast of the summit . While most of the mountain with its summit is in Westphalia , the eastern flank that slopes down towards the Boxbach is in central Hesse. To the north the landscape passes over a 547.6  m high saddle for little Ahlertsberg ( 597.8  m ) and to the south by the Boxbachtal the Hessian Hommerich head ( 561.6  m above).

Natural allocation

The Spreitzkopf belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) and in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) to the subunit Südwittgensteiner Bergland (333.2).

Flowing waters

The Lahn tributary Wahbach (Wabach) rises on the northeast flank of the Spreitzkopf . The source of the Hesselbach lies on its southern flank and that of the Auerbach on the northern flank , both of which flow into the Banfe . A little further away, on the border at Hommerichskopf, the Perf inflow Boxbach rises . Banfe and Perf drain into the Rhine tributary Lahn.

Mountain height

The Spreitzkopf is 627  m high. There is a 626.9  m high point near the summit .

Protected areas

Parts of the Wahbachtal nature reserve extend to the northern flank of the Spreitzkopf ( CDDA no. 166128; designated in 1987; 29.03  hectares in size). Parts of the Bad Laasphe landscape protection area lie on the mountain (CDDA no. 555558490; designated 1987; 122.9381  km² in size).

Traffic, hiking and the Hesselbach wind farm

The district road 36 runs over the south and east flanks of the Spreitzkopf and leads in a north-east-south-west direction from Bad Laasphe over the Armer Mann mountain pass to Hesselbach. In Hesselbach it bears the name Zum Spreit from the center of the village to the eastern outskirts . For example, starting on this road, the mountain can be hiked on forest paths and paths. The Hesselbach wind farm is located near the summit .
