Willi Fruth

Wilhelm "Willi" Fruth (born April 21, 1925 in Munich ; † September 9, 2014 ) was a German jazz musician ( clarinet , accordion , composition ), music producer and publisher, who is best known for his productions at MPS .

Live and act

Fruth studied clarinet at the Munich Music Academy from 1939 to 1942 before he was drafted into military service in World War II . From 1946 he led his own bands; he then worked in Switzerland for ten years. In 1963 he became the head of production of the record label SABA and in 1968 of the jazz label MPS, which emerged from this, for which he also worked as a sound engineer. He produced recordings that were considered groundbreaking internationally. With Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer he founded the music publisher Edition Swington , which published the recorded compositions of the musicians and which later belonged to him alone. After the end of the label activities in 1981 he worked as a publisher and continued to work as a composer. He has composed more than 200 titles, including for Erwin Lehn ( Swing Sketch ) and Nelson Riddle ( Romantic Places ).
