Hans-Jürgen Schaal (jazz author)

Hans-Jürgen Schaal (* 1958 in Stuttgart - Bad Cannstatt ) is a German jazz author and jazz journalist.

Life

Schaal studied German , sociology and theater studies , which he completed in 1986 in Munich with a master's degree. While still a student, he started working as a jazz journalist. He also held courses on literature at the Munich Adult Education Center from 1987 to 1989. From 1992 to 2010 he worked for the Enja record label in Munich and from 1999 to 2011 as a lecturer for Jazz thing (with its blues and world music supplement Blue Rhythm) in Cologne . Schaal has lived in Germering near Munich since 1993 . Besides Jazz thing he wrote a. a. in Jazz Podium , Jazzthetik , the Jazzzeitung and Fono Forum . Schaal is the author (and translator) of several jazz books, including a. the new edition of the standard work on jazz by Arrigo Polillo , a dictionary of jazz standards and a biography on Stan Getz .
