Wilhelm "Willi" Hochgeschurtz (born May 8, 1931 in Cologne ) is a former German cyclist.
Cycling career
First career
Willi Hochgeschurtz, who started cycling at the age of 16, was active as a track cyclist in the 1950s ; he started for RC Schmitter Cologne . Several times he was on the podium at German championships, so he was vice-champion of the amateurs in the single pursuit in 1954 and 1955 in the sprint . In the same year he won the amateur track race Silver Eagle from Cologne with Willy Franssen .
In 1955 Hochgeschurtz joined the professionals . In 1957 he took third place in the German sprint championships and second place in 1958. In the same year he ended his career as a professional athlete. According to his own statements, he won a total of around 700 races, competed in numerous classics and two six-day races, in 1956 with Klaus Bugdahl in Dortmund .
Second career
After finishing his sports career, Willi Hochgeschurtz worked as a self-employed businessman and ran a chain of kiosks in Cologne. In the 1990s he moved to the Eifel with his family .
In 2003, at the age of 72, Hochschurtz won the 35th World Cycling Cup of Senior Road World Champions for the fourth time and also achieved the seventh World Cup victory in St. Johann in Tirol . In 2007 he won the 39th World Cycling Cup in the 75 to 79 year class; In 2008 he was vice-senior road world champion at the 40th World Cycling Cup in St. Johann.
