Willi Steinhörster

Willi Steinhörster (born March 2, 1908 in Brunsbüttel , † November 26, 1978 in Itzehoe ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending primary school , Steinhörster completed an apprenticeship at a banking institute and then worked as an accountant and authorized signatory, mainly for trade union and cooperative construction companies in Schleswig-Holstein . After the National Socialists came to power , he was released in 1933 and temporarily imprisoned. Steinhörster took part in the Second World War as a soldier and after his release from prisoner-of-war he worked as a commercial clerk.

He was married twice and had two children from his first marriage.

Steinhörster, a member of the SPD since 1927, was a member of the two appointed state parliaments of Schleswig-Holstein from 1946 to 1947 and of the zone advisory council for the British zone of occupation in 1947/48 . From 1947 to 1950 he was a member of the state parliament as a directly elected member of the Steinburg constituency . From December 20, 1946, Steinhörster was chairman of the finance committee.

From 1949 to 1953 Steinhörster was a member of the German Bundestag and from March 20, 1952, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Borderland Issues. In 1951, together with Paul Bausch (CDU) , he pushed through the federal government's institutional funding for bird protection (now NABU ) from the federal budget. Steinhörster moved into the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Steinburg constituency .

From 1956 to 1960 he was a member of the district council of the Recklinghausen district .

Public offices

Steinhörster was from November 29, 1947 to November 22, 1948 honorary district administrator of the Steinburg district and from 1956 to 1960 of the Recklinghausen district. From 1960 until his retirement in 1971 he was finally an alderman for the economic department of the city of Recklinghausen .
