William Anderson (art historian)

Bror Oscar William Anderson (born July 31, 1879 in Karlskrona , † February 25, 1939 in Bad Kudowa ) was a Swedish art historian .

Life

William Anderson first worked as an accountant, then as a station master on the railroad and finally he was a journalist from 1911 to 1919. In 1908 he met the art historian Johnny Roosval when he was traveling to Öland for a scientific study of the village churches there . He supported him in his research and decided to also become an art historian and devote his life to the Swedish village churches. He moved to Lund in 1909 to study art history, for which he received a special permit, and in 1925 he received his doctorate.

He wrote several volumes of the inventory work Sveriges kyrkor. Konsthistoriskt inventarium for the province of Blekinge , part of which appeared from his estate.
