William Bayly

William Bayly (* 1737 ; † 1810 ) was a British astronomer .

Bayle accompanied James Cook on his second voyage south on the HMS Adventure and together with William Wales determined the longitude of Queen Charlotte Sound with the help of Larcum Kendall's K1 chronometer . On Cook's third expedition, Bayle served on HMS Discovery . Bayly Island , an island in the South Atlantic, is named after him .
