William Evans, Baron Energlyn

William David Evans, Baron Energlyn FRGS FGS ( December 25, 1912 - June 27, 1985 ) was a British geologist . In 1968 he became a Life Peer under the Life Peerages Act 1958 of the House of Lords .

Life

Evans completed a degree in civil engineering after attending school , which he completed with a degree as a civil engineer. In further postgraduate studies he obtained a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.), a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.) and a Master of Science (M.Sc.). During the Second World War he did his military service in the British Army as a military engineer.

In 1949 he took over a professorship for geology at the University of Nottingham and taught there until his retirement in 1978. At the same time he was head of the department of geology during this time and served as dean of the faculty of earth sciences between 1953 and 1957 . In addition to his teaching activities, he was also a consultant to domestic and foreign governments as well as to various mining and chemical companies.

In his scientific work Evans dealt with topics such as macerals and founded pyro- chromatography and membrane colorimetry as analytical techniques.

Due to his many years of service in geology and related sciences, he became a member of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy (MIMM), Fellow of the Linnean Society of London (FLS), Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS) and the Geological Society of London (FGS) .

By a letters patent dated July 10, 1968, Evans was raised to the nobility under the Life Peerages Act 1958 as a life peer with the title Baron Energlyn , of Caerphily in the County of Glamorganshire, and thus belonged to the House of Lords until his death Member at. Its official introduction ( Introduction ) took place on July 24, 1968 with the assistance of Arwyn Davies, Baron Arwyn and Ifor Evans, Baron Evans of Hungershall .

His wife Jean Thompson Miller, Baroness Energlyn, with whom he had been married since 1942, died in 2002.
