William Girometti

William Girometti (born January 9, 1924 in Milan , † October 3, 1998 in Bologna ) was an Italian surrealist painter .

Girometti spent his childhood and early youth in Milan, where he studied painting during the Second World War at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera . After the war he toured Italy . In the early 1950s he joined a group of young artists in Ferrara and became friends with the painter Tito Salomoni. At first he wanted to devote himself to sculpture. In the late 1950s he spent some time studying and working in France , Switzerland , Austria , Germany , Denmark and Sweden . Back in Italy, he divided his time between Milan and Ferrara.

In the 1960s Girometti began supplying art dealers with pictures that were ordered according to the customers' tastes. In addition, he developed his surrealist style. Finally in 1971 he settled in Bologna with his wife. The exhibition opened on November 24, 1973 in the gallery “Der” in Bologna brought him awards, prizes and reviews in newspapers, magazines, special catalogs and programs on Italian and European television.

In some of his works there are references to ancient Italian art. He also played with the trompe l'oeil painting. Some of his works show an influence from Giuseppe Arcimboldo . In the late 1970s, Girometti developed his own graphic technique. In the last years of his life, the artist devoted himself to glass painting .

On the fringes of his activity Girometti occupied himself with poetry. He published some of his poems.
