William Glasgow

William Glasgow (born April 26, 1906 in Yuma , Arizona , United States , † November 25, 1972 in Los Angeles ) was an American film architect .

Life

From 1923, Glasgow had worked in various Los Angeles architecture firms, initially for the architect Paul Williams . His area of ​​responsibility was primarily villa construction in Beverly Hills . In 1933 he switched to film and began working as a draftsman for MGM .

In 1946, Glasgow was appointed chief architect. In this capacity, he designed a number of completely insignificant B-Pictures in the 50s and early 60s. With the beginning of his collaboration with the action film specialist Robert Aldrich , Glasgow's most fruitful creative period began. His decors for Aldrich's masterful, black and white horror thriller What really happened to Baby Jane? and lullaby for a corpse were particularly impressive thanks to Glasgow's creation of atmospheric showers, with which the former villa builder was able to implement his experiences from his time as an aspiring architect.
