William Glasgow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William Glasgow (born April 26, 1906 in Yuma , Arizona , United States , † November 25, 1972 in Los Angeles ) was an American film architect .

Life

From 1923, Glasgow had worked in various Los Angeles architecture firms, initially for the architect Paul Williams . His area of responsibility was primarily villa construction in Beverly Hills . In 1933 he switched to film and began working as a draftsman for MGM .

In 1946, Glasgow was appointed chief architect. In this capacity, he designed a number of completely insignificant B-Pictures in the 50s and early 60s. With the beginning of his collaboration with the action film specialist Robert Aldrich , Glasgow's most fruitful creative period began. His decors for Aldrich's masterful, black and white horror thriller What really happened to Baby Jane? and lullaby for a corpse were particularly impressive thanks to Glasgow's creation of atmospheric showers, with which the former villa builder was able to implement his experiences from his time as an aspiring architect. He received an Oscar nomination for Lullaby for a Corpse
