William H. Bradley

William H. Bradley (born July 10, 1868 in Boston , Massachusetts , † January 25, 1962 in La Mesa , California ) was an American draftsman and illustrator .

Bradley was the son of a draftsman; from 1881 he completed an apprenticeship in a printing company in northern Michigan . From 1885 he worked in various printing works in Chicago . Bradley began working as a draftsman and illustrator in the early 1890s and quickly became the main artist of American posters.

After an article about Bradley and his posters was published in STUDIO 1895, Bradley was invited to the first exhibition in the “Salon de l'Art Nouveau” by Siegfried Bing . In 1895 he opened his own printing company in Springfield , Massachusetts. During these years his best and most characteristic works were created in the Art Nouveau , of which he became the most famous representative for America. Bradley was the highest paid artist in the United States during the first quarter of the 20th century. The Bradley font goes back to his designs.
