William Henry Witte

William Henry Witte (born October 4, 1817 in Columbia , Morris County , New Jersey , †  November 24, 1876 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In his youth, William Witte came to Springtown , Pennsylvania, where he attended public schools. From 1840 he lived in Philadelphia, where he worked in commerce and real estate. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1852 Witte was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Robbins on March 4, 1853 . Until March 3, 1855, he was able to complete a legislative term in Congress . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, William Witte worked again in the real estate industry. He was also involved in the newspaper business. He died in Philadelphia on November 24, 1876.
