William Hudson

William Hudson (* 1730 in Kendal ; † 23 May 1793 ) was one of the first British botanists and mycologists to publish comprehensive works on native mushrooms . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Huds. ".

He published his greatest work, Flora anglica , in 1762. A year earlier, on November 5, 1761, he became a Fellow of the Royal Society .

Dedication name

The genus Hudsonia L. of the plant family of the rockrose family (Cistaceae) was named in his honor.
