William Mordecai Cooke

William Mordecai Cooke, Sr. (born December 11, 1823 in Portsmouth , Virginia , † April 14, 1863 in Petersburg , Virginia) was an American politician from the 19th century .

Cooke served as a judge in Missouri in 1849 . After the secession of his home state Missouri, he represented it first in the Provisional Confederate Congress and then in the 1st Confederate Congress until his death in 1863 . He also served as a Colonel in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War .

He found his final resting place in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis , Missouri, where he was last reburied.
