William Reed (organist)

William Reed (born September 9, 1859 in Montreal , † November 2, 1945 in Québec ) was a Canadian organist and composer.

Reed was an organ student of Romain-Octave Pelletier and Dominique Ducharme . From 1878 he studied at Keble College in Oxford. He then worked until 1913 as an organist in various churches in Montreal (1888–99), Toronto (1899–1900) and Quebec (from 1900). In 1901 he was together with his student Henri Gagnon guest organist at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo. After 1913 he concentrated on his compositional work and wrote articles for The Etude and other magazines.

In addition to smaller choral works and anthems, Reed composed several cantatas and organ works. A total of about fifty works appeared in print.
