Dominique Ducharme (musician)
Dominique Ducharme (born May 14, 1840 in Lachine , † December 28, 1899 in Montreal ) was a Canadian pianist , organist and music teacher .
As a child, Ducharme had piano lessons with an organist in his hometown, which he continued in Montreal with Paul Letondal and then for a year with Charles W. Sabatier . From 1863 to 1868 he studied piano with Antoine François Marmontel and harmony with François Bazin at the Paris Conservatory . At soirees organized by Gioacchino Rossini , he met Franz Liszt , who advised him on piano technique.
In 1868 Ducharme returned to Montreal. From 1869 to 1898 he worked as an organist at Gesù Church , as a pianist he only appeared occasionally. Mostly he devoted himself to teaching. His students included Édouard Clarke , Achille Fortier , Alfred La Liberté , William Reed , Émiliano Renaud and Joseph Saucier . In 1896 and 1897 he was president of the Académie de musique du Québec .
