William S. Allen

William Sylvester Allen (* 26. August 1857 in Hillsboro , Iowa ; † 6. December 1926 in Fairfield , Iowa) was an American lawyer and politician of the Republican Party .

Career

After graduating from the University of Iowa , Allen moved to Birmingham and practiced as a lawyer. In Birmingham he was also elected mayor and was a member of the school commission.

Allen was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from 1894 to 1898 , a Senator in the Iowa Senate from 1909 to 1913, and then served as Iowa Secretary of State . On July 1, 1919, he resigned as Secretary of State and resumed practicing as a lawyer in Fairfield.
