William Talman (* 1650 ; † 1719 ) was an English architect and contemporary of Christopher Wren .

Talman designed the facades of his country houses with pilasters , architraves and friezes and thus exercised a great influence on the design of English country houses. In the royal building department he was an employee of Christopher Wren and probably also revised the planning for Hampton Court Palace . He was one of the most important English country house architects and combined the French with the Italian baroque in his work. His influence on it was only surpassed by the architect John Vanbrugh , who created the famous Blenheim Palace as well as Castle Howard .
