William Wain Prior
William Wain Prior (born July 18, 1876 in Copenhagen , † March 9, 1946 in Frederiksberg ) was a Danish general and from 1939 to 1941 Commander in Chief of the Danish Army .
General Prior advocated strengthening the army to ensure the country's independence from Germany , but could not prevail against parliament and government with his position. Parliament and government feared that strengthening the army could provoke a German attack.
On April 9, 1940, Prior advocated an active defense of the country against the German invasion . In the Privy Council with King Christian X and the most important ministers, however, it was decided to accept the German demands after Germany threatened to bomb Copenhagen and other Danish cities.
William Wain Prior remained until 1941 Chief of the Army and prevented cooperation of the Danish Army with the army .
