Christian Keller (born August 3, 1972 in Essen ) is a former German swimmer who took part in four Olympic Games and won a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games .

Life

Christian Keller competed for the SG Essen . In 1988 Keller became Junior European Champion in the 200 meter butterfly, in 1989 he won the junior title in the 200 meter freestyle and 200 meter medley. In 1991 he won his first two championship titles in the adult class. Between 1991 and 2004 , Keller won a total of 35 championship titles, 9 of them on the 200-meter medley course and 5 over 100 meters butterfly.

With his first championship titles, Keller qualified for the 1991 European Championship. There he finished fourth in the 200 meter medley and won his first international medal with the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​he took fourth place with the individual relay relay, and reached the B final over 200 meters freestyle.

In 1993, Keller won the 200-meter medley course at the World Short Course Championships and won the 200-meter butterfly and the silver medal with the 4 × 200-meter freestyle relay. At the European Championships on the 50-meter track in Sheffield, Keller achieved third place on the 200-meter individualized course and received his first individual European championship medal. At the 1994 World Cup, Keller won a bronze medal with the 4 × 200-meter relay.

In 1995 he swam gold with the 4 × 200 meter relay at the European Championships and again took bronze in the 200 meter medley. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta, he finished ninth on the individual medley course, but won bronze in the 200-meter freestyle relay.

In the years that followed, Keller was successful in almost every international championship. In 1999 in Istanbul he won his second European championship gold with the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay. At his third Olympic participation in Sydney in 2000 , Keller finally reached an individual final and was sixth in the 200 meter medley. In 2003, Keller won his second world championship medal and in 2004 he took part in the Olympic Games in Athens for the fourth time and was sixth again in the 4 × 200 meter relay.

In 2013, Keller was a member of the jury for the RTL show Die Pool Champions - Promis Unter Wasser .
