William Worth

William Worth (born December 13, 1912 in Perth ) is a former Australian diplomat and was temporarily acting Secretary General of the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) .

Life

Worth was first Deputy Secretary General of SEATO in September 1957 and took over the office of Secretary General Pote Sarasin on a provisional basis after he became Acting Prime Minister of Thailand on September 22, 1957 . After Pote Sarasin resumed the office of Secretary General on January 10, 1958, Worth continued to be Deputy Secretary General. In this capacity he also wrote a statement from SEATO to US President John F. Kennedy on May 16, 1962 , after troops from Laos had attacked Thailand and Kennedy then dispatched US Army troops to Thailand.

On December 13, 1963, he became acting Secretary General of SEATO, after Pote Sarasin was appointed Minister for National Development in Thailand and had resigned. Worth held until the inauguration of Konthi Suphamongkhon on February 19, 1964.

Later Worth was from 1 November 1975 to 31 October 1977, administrator of belonging to Australia territory of Christmas Island ( Territory of Christmas Island ).
