William Edward "Willie" Cunningham (born February 20, 1930 in Antrim ( Mallusk ), † August 31, 2007 in Dunfermline ) was a Northern Irish football player and coach.
Career
As a player
Cunningham signed his first professional contract with FC St. Mirren at the age of 20 , where he played for four years until he moved to Leicester City in 1954 . He stayed there until 1960 and moved again to Dunfermline Athletic for the last three active years .
For the Northern Irish national football team Cunningham played 30 games and took part with the team in the 1958 World Cup.
As a trainer
A year after the end of his playing career, he took over the coaching post at Dunfermline Athletic and stayed in office until 1967. From 1968 he coached FC Falkirk for another vir years. In 1972 he came back to FC St. Mirren , but was replaced there in 1974 by Alex Ferguson .
Cunningham died on August 31, 2007 at the age of 77.
