William Lawrence Dunn (born August 14, 1941 in Montreal , † August 5, 2013 in Ottawa ) was a Canadian songwriter and filmmaker .

life and career

Born in Montreal in 1941, Willie Dunn, who had both Scottish and Native American ( Micmac ) ancestors, has been involved in contemporary folk music since the 1950s. Thematically, he mainly dealt with the natives of the North American continent. He often combined his recordings with texts by Shakespeare , TS Eliot , Herman Melville and others. a.

In 1971 he published the first music video from Canada with a self-made video clip. In addition, he had directed several award-winning documentaries, wrote film music and dealt with the political self-government of Native American indigenous peoples.

In Germany, his music has been released on the Trikont label in Munich .
