Willishof

Willishof is a small housing estate southwest of the Magdeburg district of Westerhüsen .

location

The houses of the settlement are on the south side of the street In der Mittelwiese and are surrounded by open fields. The Pfingstwiesengraben rises north of the settlement . Due to the street name, In der Mittelwiese is also a common name. The spelling Willyshof or Willis Hof can also be found for the name Willishof .

history

In 1913, the bricklayer foreman Hermann Wesemann and the farmer and locksmith Ernst Kühle each built a house with a stable and a barn on the Goedeschen heirs' field plan . In 1917 the Gebrüder Allendorff company from Schönebeck (Elbe) acquired the farms. The farms were combined and run as the Vorwerk of the manor Sohlen under the name Willishof. A transformer structure was built on the first courtyard . A tool shed, dismantled in a brickworks in Randau , was built on the second farm and served as accommodation for workers. At the end of 1923 the farms and fields were divided. Five farms were created, each with 50 acres of fields. German families settled here who had fled from areas of Posen and West Prussia that had become Polish after the First World War .

In 1931 a bronze eagle was found in the area of the settlement, which may represent the remainder of a Swedish helmet and may go back to a dispute in the formerly nearby Westerhüser wood in the 17th century. In 1941 there was a fire.

A coffee roastery has been operated at the address In der Mittelwiese 5 since 2019 .
