Life

After attending elementary school, he began an apprenticeship as a tool fitter in 1917, which he was unable to finish due to the First World War. He therefore worked first in agriculture and then as a milling cutter.

Raphelt was enthusiastic about sports and joined the Steinmoos tourist club in 1918. In 1923 he also became a member of the tourist association "Die Naturfreunde" (TVDN), founded in 1895 . The United Climbing Departments (VKA), formed in 1921 and also known under the name of Rote Bergsteiger , joined as the Saxon regional association and a subsidiary of the TVDN . Since the VKA were dissolved, Raphelt joined the Naturfreunde opposition in 1930 . United Climbing Departments eV (NF-O VKA), which was banned in 1933. During the National Socialist era, Raphelt took part in several illegal actions on both sides of the Saxon-Czech border and was arrested several times, but released again due to a lack of evidence.

In 1938 Raphelt joined the Austrian Tourist Club (ÖTK), which had a local branch in Dresden. On January 17, 1945, Raphelt was arrested for the last time by the Gestapo in the Schießgasse police prison, where he witnessed the bombing raid on Dresden on his 42nd birthday, in which his house was destroyed and his family was killed. The next day he was transferred to the Radeberg penal camp. On March 15, 1945, he was released for lack of evidence.

After the war he made himself available to rebuild. He became KPD party secretary in a district of Dresden and received a position with the state government of Saxony, later with the SED state leadership and from 1952 on with the Dresden district leadership.

In 1961 he was elected to the district committee of the German Association for Hiking and Mountaineering (DWBV) of the Dresden district , of which he later became the second chairman.
